About CURE-Connecticut's BioScience Cluster

CURE, a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 corporation, is the organizational center of Connecticut's BioScience Cluster. It has firmly established Connecticut as a leader in BioScience research and development. In the past four years alone, BioScience in Connecticut has increased research and development spending 75 percent, and research and development employment has risen 42 percent.
In partnership with Connecticut's Department of Economic and Community Development, CURE provides a forum for Connecticut BioScience research organizations to exchange information on issues and opportunities of common interest. Through their association with CURE, public and private organizations collaborate and provide support and assistance to:

• Stimulate the growth of existing BioScience companies, facilitate formation of new BioScience companies and their establishment in the state, and promote the recruitment of companies from outside Connecticut.
• Facilitate information exchange and communication among Cluster members.
• Publicize the Cluster's socioeconomic contributions and potential.
• Develop a skilled and entrepreneurial workforce for the Cluster.

CURE was founded in 1990 as the information source for biomedical research in Connecticut; in 1998, CURE was designated as the BioScience Cluster by the state of Connecticut, assuming responsibility for economic development and marketing of this quickly growing sector.
The 100 CURE members from Connecticut's leading research and educational entities, health related corporations and professional societies, hospitals and health care systems, supporting agencies, and voluntary health organizations form the Cluster.
CURE is the only Connecticut organization that provides policy leaders, journalists, teachers, students, and the general public with timely and credible information on critical issues related to the processes and benefits of biomedical research and biotechnology in the state.

CURE's work also focuses on:

• The benefits and processes of biotechnology
• The care and use of laboratory animals
• The economic benefits of biomedical research
• Research funding - both state and federal
• Science literacy
• The use, storage, and disposal of low-level radioactive materials.
