Mettler-Toledo To Host 3rd Annual Metrology Symposium

Columbus, OH (PRWEB)

METTLER TOLEDO is pleased to host the 3rd Annual Metrology Symposium which will take place October 25-26, 2017 in Los Angeles, CA. The symposium will feature speakers from North American National Measurement Institutes (NMI) with a purpose to educate and exchange information dealing with today's mass calibration technologies and help with planning for the future of the modern lab.

The event is not just for metrologists. With content that touches the wider laboratory community, people from all scientific disciplines will benefit from attendance. In the coming year or so, the current International System of Units (SI) will be reformed and redefined. The chair of one committee, tasked with redefining the SI, will deliver the keynote presentation. During a similar time period, the kilogram will be redefined via a paradigm shift away from traceability to a physical standard. The value of the kilogram will be established from Planck's constant. The symposium will culminate with another keynote presentation on this topic.

The event features presentations from the leading company in lab environmental control and monitoring, the global leader in weights manufacture, as well as METTLER TOLEDO's own subject matter experts discussing new and future technologies for efficient weighing and weight calibration.

METTLER TOLEDO will have their latest products on display, with experts on-hand to answer questions. Attendees are encouraged to discuss current lab topics and latest technologies.

This two-day symposium will cover the following topics:

  •     Laboratory Design and Environmental Control
  •     Structure and Philosophy of Automation in the Modern Laboratory
  •     Data Control and Management
  •     Mass Comparison Under Constant Pressure and Vacuum Conditions
  •     Redefinition of the S.I. and the Kilogram

Keynote Speakers
Dr. Patrick Abbott of the Force and Mass Group of the US National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) – Patrick is an expert in mass metrology, a power user of robotic and automated mass comparators, and a leading physicist in the NIST Force and Mass Group in Gaithersburg, MD. Patrick has been closely involved in the redefinition of the kilogram, pioneering the development of the Magnetic Levitation balance that will partner the Kibble Balance, to help redefine the kilogram.

Dr. Juris Meija of the National Research Council (NRC) in Canada – Juris is a global expert in chemical metrology, based at the NRC's Ottawa, Ontario campus. He is a leader in the redefinition of the SI and represents NRC on many committees and working groups.
